Product Page SEO Checklist for WooCommerce and Shopify

The platform changes where you edit the fields, but the work is the same: describe the product accurately, make the page crawlable, and make visible information agree with structured data.

Where to edit on each platform

WordPress with WooCommerce: open Products > All Products > Edit and check the name, descriptions, images, price, stock, categories and attributes. Then check the rendered page too. WooCommerce says its core generates product structured data, but variable products can need extra attention because the standard output may summarize variants rather than expose each variation.

Shopify: open the product in Products, edit the title, description, images, options, price and inventory, then review the Search engine listing section for page title, meta description and URL handle. Shopify handles some SEO elements automatically, such as sitemaps and some structured data, but inspect the output of your actual theme and apps.

The five-point check

  1. Title. Name the item in words a buyer recognizes. Google recommends concise, descriptive titles and may show a different title link if the page sends conflicting signals.
  2. Description. Put the decision-making facts on the page: material, measurements, use, care, contents and limits. A meta description can summarize them, but Google may build the snippet from the page instead.
  3. Attributes and variants. Record real color, size and material consistently. A blue small item must not use the image, price or availability of a red large one. Google names mismatched variant data as a common problem.
  4. Structured data. Check that the page exposes correct Product and Offer information: price, currency, availability and identity where relevant. This can make a directly purchasable page eligible for richer displays, with no guarantee.
  5. Validation. Test a public product URL in Google's Rich Results Test, then check the Merchant listings report in Search Console. Recheck after changing themes, SEO apps or templates.

Schema is not a product feed

Schema is machine-readable information on your page. A feed is a catalog you submit through a supported channel. Google can use page data, Merchant Center data or both. OpenAI's direct feed program has its own onboarding and format. See how AI shopping assistants see your store for the bigger picture.
