Etsy Social Media: Bring Shoppers In

Many Etsy sellers post every week and still cannot tell whether it brings a single order. The usual reasons are posts that give followers no reason to click, links that are not tracked, and no plan for what to post. All three can be fixed.

Problem 1: You cannot tell whether social media works

Etsy has a built-in way to measure it. Share & Save lets any Etsy seller generate a trackable link in Shop Manager and post it on approved channels like blogs, emails and social media pages. Etsy gives you 4% back on your Etsy bill for eligible orders that come through that link within 30 days, and 6.5% for the first two weeks after you sign up. There is no application and no minimum follower count.

The Share & Save dashboard shows clicks, orders, revenue and credits earned, so you can see which posts, platforms and products actually bring buyers. Etsy also tells sellers that it is investing in social sharing tools in the Etsy Seller app.

Share & Save or Creator Collective?

You may qualify for both, but you need to choose one, because the same sharing activity cannot earn from both at once. For most small shops, Share & Save is the simple place to start. Etsy's terms apply, so read them before you join.

Problem 2: Posts that get no reaction

Engagement comes from giving people something they cannot get from a plain product photo. Etsy itself notes that process shots are handy for promoting your business on social media. Ideas that work for most handmade and gift shops:

  • Show the making: short clips of the process, a before and after, or a close-up of a finishing detail. Buyers of handmade items care about the person and the craft.
  • Reuse your listing assets: your studio, lifestyle, scale and packaging shots, and your listing videos, all work as posts. Create once, publish in several places.
  • Answer real questions: turn the questions buyers send you into posts, such as sizing, care or "how long does it take".
  • Show people using the product: reviews, photos from buyers (with permission) and gift moments.
  • Use seasonal hooks: gift guides, occasion posts and countdowns tied to the real shopping calendar. See my holiday season checklist.

Problem 3: Followers who never click

People do not follow a link because you asked. Give them one clear reason: a new item, a limited batch, a behind-the-scenes story that ends with the product. Put one link per post, and say where it goes. Reply to comments and messages quickly, since conversation is what turns a follower into a customer.

Match the platform to the product. Pinterest suits visual products, because pins can keep sending visitors for months. Short video on Instagram, TikTok or YouTube suits products with a process, a transformation or movement.

How to measure it

  1. Create a Share & Save link and use it in every post and bio.
  2. After a few weeks, check clicks and orders in the dashboard.
  3. In your Etsy stats, look at the traffic sources report. The "from you" section includes social media, direct and referral traffic, and Etsy Ads.
  4. Do more of whatever platform and post type shows clicks that turn into orders.

Etsy says its marketplace reaches 89.6 million active buyers, and social media is one way to bring some of those buyers straight to your shop instead of waiting for search alone.
